Quarter
Salamanca
Salamanca is one of Madrid's 21 districts, created during the city's 1860s expansion after Queen Isabella II authorised demolition of the old defensive walls, and named after developer José de Salamanca y Mayol, one of the era's richest businessmen. It became fully urbanised by 1927. Today it is among Madrid's most affluent neighbourhoods, home to Calle de Serrano, ranked the third most expensive street in Spain by Cushman & Wakefield, with upscale shops and diplomatic missions.
