Quality Standards

What it takes to be listed, how we rate what we include, and what we owe the people who use this guide.

Eligibility

What Gets Listed

Not every restaurant makes it into a Guidavera guide. Every listing clears a quality threshold before it appears, based on consistent evidence of quality from multiple independent sources, not self-promotion or popularity alone.

We are not looking only for the most famous or most decorated restaurants. A neighbourhood spot with no awards but an exceptional, well-documented track record can earn a place alongside starred institutions. The goal is to surface the best restaurants, including the ones that don't make obvious lists.

We do not list closed restaurants. If a restaurant closes after publication, its listing is removed.

Scoring

How We Rate Restaurants

Every restaurant in a Guidavera guide receives a Consensus Score between 0 and 10. It reflects the combined signal from across the professional and diner sources where that restaurant appears, synthesised into a single number so that restaurants can be compared fairly.

The system is designed so that the score reflects genuine quality, not just visibility or popularity. Critical recognition from trained, independent reviewers carries more weight than volume of reviews alone. A restaurant celebrated by people who know food well, but unknown to tourists, will score better than a tourist favourite with mediocre food.

Restaurants with professional guide recognition are scored using both guide standings and available diner data. Restaurants without guide recognition are scored entirely on editorial and diner consensus, so they are never penalised simply for being outside a guide's scope. All restaurants are grouped into quality tiers so readers who prefer a label to a number can use that instead.

Tiers

Quality Tiers

Every listed restaurant is assigned to a tier based on professional guide recognition and consensus score. Even the lowest tier, Good, represents a restaurant that has cleared a meaningful quality bar.

Exceptional

Universal acclaim. These restaurants define their city's culinary identity.

Outstanding

Highly acclaimed, consistently excellent. The strongest restaurants short of the very top.

Excellent

Well above average, frequently recommended. A reliable choice for a memorable meal.

Very Good

Formal recognition of culinary excellence. Worth seeking out.

Hidden Gem

Inspector-verified restaurants without a top-tier award. Recognised by professional guides. Still a meaningful quality signal worth seeking out.

Worth Visiting

Restaurants with a genuine editorial signal: casual charm or a strong critical reception that goes beyond simple inclusion.

Good

Clears the quality bar for inclusion. Worth visiting for specific strengths.

Accuracy

What We Verify

Every restaurant page is individually reviewed before publication. Ratings, hours, menus, prices, chef names, contact details, and accolades are all cross-referenced against live sources, not assumed from a database or copied from a single platform.

Restaurant data changes. Hours shift seasonally, menus rotate, prices adjust, chefs move on. We re-verify listings on an ongoing cycle. Each restaurant page shows the date its information was last checked.

If you find something wrong, like a closed restaurant, an incorrect price, or an outdated menu, please tell us. We investigate and correct verified inaccuracies promptly.

Independence

Editorial Independence

No restaurant pays for inclusion in Guidavera. No restaurant pays for a higher ranking, a better tier, or preferential placement. Rankings are determined by our editorial process, not by commercial relationships.

We do not accept sponsored listings, advertorial content, or paid editorial placement of any kind. If that ever changes, we will say so clearly.
