Puerta de Alcalá

Puerta de Alcalá is a neoclassical monumental gate on Plaza de la Independencia in Madrid's Retiro district, commissioned by King Charles III and designed by Francesco Sabatini, with sculptural details by Francisco Gutiérrez and Roberto Michel. It was inaugurated in 1778, replacing an earlier gate in the Walls of Philip IV and marking the road to Alcalá de Henares. Built chiefly from Segovia granite, it stands a short distance from the main entrance to Parque del Buen Retiro.
