Parque del Buen Retiro

Parque del Buen Retiro is a 142-hectare public park in central Madrid, originally laid out in the 1630s by landscaper Cosimo Lotti as gardens for the Spanish monarchy. It became a public park in 1868 after the Glorious Revolution. Its features include the Estanque del Retiro boating lake, the glass Palacio de Cristal built in 1887, and the early 20th-century Rosaleda rose garden. In 2021 the park was included, with the Paseo del Prado, in a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
