Palacio Real de Madrid

The Palacio Real de Madrid is the official residence of the Spanish royal family, though it is now used mainly for state ceremonies. Construction began in 1735 for King Philip V under architect Filippo Juvarra and was continued by Giovanni Battista Sacchetti, with the palace completed in 1755. It spans more than 135,000 square metres and 3,418 rooms, described as the largest palace in Western Europe. The palace is open to the public except during official functions.
