Background

About Taberna del Alabardero Madrid

The Story

Taberna del Alabardero Madrid is where the Lezama Group began. By its own account, what started more than 45 years ago as a small tavern next to the Teatro Real, set up to employ a group of young people in Madrid, has grown into a group with several restaurants, a catering arm and a set of hospitality schools. The Madrid taberna still sits in the same spot by the Teatro Real.

The Cuisine

The kitchen is traditional Spanish and castizo, built on seasonal, first-quality product: spoon dishes, fresh salads and tapas to share, plus special sharing menus. The house also bills its cooking as traditional Basque, a nod to the Taberna del Alabardero's roots.

Getting There

It's on Calle Felipe V in the Palacio barrio of central Madrid, right next to the Teatro Real and Plaza de Oriente.

Nearby

Palacio is the grand, historic western edge of the centre, wrapped around Palacio Real de Madrid and Plaza de Oriente. The eating runs from tavern cooking that has not changed in generations to small rooms doing something quieter and more modern. Teatro Real and Jardines de Sabatini set the pace, which is slower here.
