Jardines de Sabatini

The Sabatini Gardens sit beside the Royal Palace in Madrid, on the site of former royal stables designed by 18th-century Italian architect Francesco Sabatini, after whom they are named. Construction of the gardens began in 1933 and was completed only in the late 1970s, and King Juan Carlos I opened them to the public in 1978. Laid out in a formal Neoclassical style, they feature clipped hedges in symmetrical geometric patterns, a pool, statues and fountains.
