Background

About Al-Nassim

The Story

Al-Nassim runs as 'one destination, two doors' on Calle Isabel la Católica: authentic Lebanese food at No. 11 and, a few steps on at No. 9, a lounge for cocktails and premium shisha. The venue designed the two as a single uninterrupted evening.

The Cuisine

Halal Lebanese cooking: cold and hot mezze, charcoal-grilled skewers, shawarmas, maklube and tajines, with Lebanese wines on the list. The concept pairs the meal with a separate lounge next door, so dinner can roll into cocktails and shisha without leaving.

Mezze

The cold mezze cover the classics: hummus (€8.45), mutabal of roasted aubergine, muhammara of red pepper, walnut and pomegranate, house labneh with za'atar, tabbouleh and fattoush. Hot ones include hummus topped with lamb and pine nuts, falafel with tarator, rakakat cheese rolls with honey, batata harra, arayes of pitta stuffed with meat or cheese, warak arish vine leaves, Lebanese empanadas and kibbeh.

Grills, Mains and Sweets

From the grill come lamb pinchos morunos (€15.95), shish taouk, kafta, a mixed grill and, for groups, an XL mixed grill (€26.95), plus spiced lamb chops. There are beef, chicken, kafta and falafel shawarmas, maklube of lamb or chicken layered with rice, aubergine and nuts, kibbeh labanieh in yogurt sauce, kafta in tahini, chicken pastela, couscous and lamb tajine with prunes, apricot and almonds. Desserts run from muhallabia and atayef to baklava and a knafeh of akkawi cheese.

The Lounge at No. 9

A few steps along at No. 9 is the lounge: signature cocktails, premium shisha with natural coals and bottle service. The lounge, the restaurant or the whole place can be booked privately, and the owners' shisha shop is a few metres away on Plaza de Santo Domingo.

Experience

Al-Nassim Dining Experience

Al-Nassim is built as a night out rather than a quick bite: a Lebanese kitchen at one door and a relaxed cocktail-and-shisha lounge at the next. It keeps late hours, works well for groups, and has vegetarian options. The venue describes the two spaces as one continuous evening.

Getting There

On Calle Isabel la Católica in the Palacio barrio, part of Madrid's Centro district.

Nearby

Palacio is the grand, historic western edge of the centre, wrapped around Palacio Real de Madrid and Plaza de Oriente. The eating runs from tavern cooking that has not changed in generations to small rooms doing something quieter and more modern. Teatro Real and Jardines de Sabatini set the pace, which is slower here.
