Mercado de San Miguel

Mercado de San Miguel is a covered market near Plaza Mayor in central Madrid, inaugurated on 13 May 1916 to a wrought-iron-and-glass design by architect Alfonso Dubé, inspired by the Les Halles markets of Paris. It was later renovated into a high-end gourmet food market, offering tapas, Iberian ham, fresh seafood and regional cheeses from dozens of stalls. It draws more than 7 million visitors a year and is among the most popular markets with tourists in Madrid.
