El Rastro

El Rastro is Madrid's most popular open-air flea market, running along Plaza de Cascorro and Ribera de Curtidores in the Barrio de Embajadores every Sunday and public holiday from 9am to 3pm. Its name is thought to trace to the historic tanneries and a nearby slaughterhouse along Ribera de Curtidores, whose trail of blood down the street gave the area its name. The market can host up to 3,500 stalls selling antiques, books, vintage clothing and curiosities.
