Background
About Rasif
The Story
Rasif means 'pavement' in Arabic, and the idea is to bring the street cooking of Beirut to central Madrid. The restaurant says its aim is fresh, high-quality dishes for lunch, dinner or takeaway, combining traditional recipes with a modern touch, for neighbours and visitors alike. On 19 October 2023 it received a Solete from the Guía Repsol, which files it under Fast Good and praises its salads, dips, sandwiches and carefully cooked plates.
The Cuisine
Lebanese street food and mezze. Salads like tabbouleh and fattoush, dips with Lebanese bread, fried and baked savoury bites, sandwiches in Lebanese bread, grilled skewer plates and Lebanese sweets. Vegetarian and vegan dishes are marked on the menu, along with allergens.
Mezze and Salads
The dips come with Lebanese bread: hummus, a sweet-potato hummus, hummus topped with chicken or beef shawarma, mutabal of roast aubergine with pomegranate, muhammara of roast red pepper and walnut, and labneh, plain or with basil pesto. A Rasif Dips board brings four of them together. Alongside sit falafel with tahini, an aubergine moussaka with pomegranate molasses, okra stewed with tomato (bemie), batata harra with garlic, coriander and chilli, makanek sausages with pine nuts, and kibbeh, cheese sambousek and spinach fatayer sold by the piece.
Sandwiches and Plates
The sandwiches, all in Lebanese bread and mostly between €9 and €13, are the street-food core: shish taouk with garlic sauce, chips and pickles, a chicken or beef shawarma, lahm meshwe of grilled beef tenderloin with hummus, kebab, makanek, spicy sujuk with cheese, and a falafel roll. For a fuller meal, the grill plates bring two skewers of beef, chicken or kebab with hummus and chips, or a mixed plate of three. Desserts are knefe, the syrup-soaked cheese pastry with pistachio, a chocolate lazy cake and sfouf, a turmeric cake.
Drinks and Hours
There's homemade lemonade, a mulberry drink (toot) and ayran, plus Alhambra on tap, Beirut beer, and Lebanese red and white from Château Ksara by the glass or bottle, with arak to finish. Rasif opens daily, from 13:30 to 23:30 most days; Friday lunch varies, so call ahead.

You'll find it at Calle del Humilladero 6, in the Barrio de la Latina, part of Madrid's Centro district.
Nearby
La Latina is Madrid's tapeo heartland, a knot of steep, narrow streets around Cava Baja and Plaza de la Paja where bars spill onto the pavement from midday. It sits beside El Rastro, the Sunday flea market, and gets busiest on weekends when the vermút crowd takes over the terraces.
