Pastela, the sweet-savoury Moroccan pie, comes medium (€10) or large (€25). To start there's harira, the house soup, for €2.50, a broad-bean cream called bissara, white beans, lentils and chickpeas. Getting There

It is on Calle del Casino, 16, in Lavapies, part of the Centro district and one of the most multicultural corners of Madrid.

Nearby

Lavapiés is a steeply layered corner of central Madrid, a tight grid of narrow streets where the cooking comes from everywhere at once. The rooms are small, the prices are honest, and the good ones fill with regulars rather than reservations. Museo Reina Sofía and CaixaForum Madrid sit uphill from it, El Rastro at the bottom.
