Lavapiés

Lavapiés is a neighbourhood in the Embajadores ward of Madrid's Centro district, southeast of La Latina, whose name means 'wash feet', possibly after a fountain that once stood in Plaza de Lavapiés. Around 60% of its residents are estimated to be of foreign origin, with communities from the Indian subcontinent, China, the Arab world and Senegal among 82 nationalities. Once described as Madrid's most humble and neglected barrio, it is now known for street art and bohemian nightlife.
