The Story
La Falda is a 'relaxed taberna with serious cooking' in Lavapiés, one of two in Madrid alongside La Falda Chamberí, which occupies the former Sylkar bar on Calle Espronceda. In October 2025 its cook, Alejandro Oliveira, won the 18th national tortilla de patatas championship at Alicante Gastronómica, a year after finishing second, and both restaurants now carry the title of Spain's best tortilla. The house also won the first Spanish championship of 'tortilla con…' (tortilla with fillings) in 2023.

The Championship Tortilla
The winning tortilla is Betanzos-style, loose and juicy in the middle, and is built from Monalisa potatoes, a dozen eggs with around three extra yolks, according to reports from the championship. Around it the kitchen cooks modern, creative plates with a playful streak, backed by a wine list the house is proud of, and the room is built for long conversations and groups.
