Background

About Bahari Indian Restaurant

The Story

Bahari came to Lavapiés after what the house calls a long experience in London, aiming to serve the food of the Indian subcontinent with an authentic, healthy flavour. Its dishes are built on seasonal ingredients sourced from across Southeast Asia, alongside fresh local produce.

The Cuisine

Indian curry house cooking: starters like samosas, onion bhaji and pakoras, tandoori grills, chicken, lamb, prawn and duck curries (madras, vindaloo, korma, bhuna, rogan josh), vegetable dishes such as palak paneer and chana masala, biryanis and naans.

Menús

From Monday to Thursday the €12.50 menú del día brings a starter (samosa, onion bhaji, pakora or paneer roll), a main such as chicken tikka masala, lamb madras or chicken korma, plain naan and pulao rice, a drink, and dessert or coffee. Every day there's a €29.95 special menu for two, with two starters, two mains, sides, dessert and drinks.

From the tandoor

Tandoori chicken is €11.99, chicken or lamb tikka €13.99 to €14.99, and the special mixed grill of lamb, chicken and lamb sausage, or the tandoori king prawns, €20.99. Starters run €4.99 to €7.99.

Getting There

It's on Calle de Lavapiés, 40, in the Lavapiés barrio of central Madrid's Centro district.

Nearby

Lavapiés is a steeply layered corner of central Madrid, a tight grid of narrow streets where the cooking comes from everywhere at once. The rooms are small, the prices are honest, and the good ones fill with regulars rather than reservations. Museo Reina Sofía and CaixaForum Madrid sit uphill from it, El Rastro at the bottom.
