Background

About Sagas

The Story

Sagas (full name: Sagas Pagesos i Cuiners, 'Farmers, Cooks & Co.') was founded in May 2011 by chef Oriol Rovira and his brothers in Barcelona's El Born district. The name comes from the mid-mountain village of Sagas in the Bergueda, where the Rovira family operates their farm Cal Rovira and their Michelin-starred farmhouse restaurant Els Casals (1 Michelin star + 1 Michelin Green Star). The concept was inspired by a memorable hamburger Oriol encountered in New York City, applying slow food principles to gourmet street food. Part of Grupo Sagardi.

The Cuisine

Chef Oriol Rovira brings farm-to-table gourmet sandwiches and Catalan tapas with nearly all ingredients sourced directly from the family's farm in Sagàs, no intermediaries. The menu splits into 'Orígenes' (traditional Catalan embutidos, botifarra, sobrasada, tartare of vaca vieja, Cal Rovira chicken, la tortilla) and 'El Mundo' (international street food: chili cheese burger 15 EUR, bogavante 22 EUR, bánh mi de porchetta 14 EUR, medianoche cubanito 14 EUR, bo ssäm de pollo 16 EUR, pan con chicharrón 15 EUR). All 100% natural, no additives. Around 25 EUR per person.

The Team

Chef Oriol Rovira oversees the concept, bringing his Michelin-starred expertise from Els Casals. The Rovira brothers (five farmer brothers) run the family farm that supplies the restaurant. Google reviewers give it 4.5/5 from 1,920 reviews.
