Square
Plaça Sant Jaume
Plaça de Sant Jaume sits at the heart of the Old City and is the administrative centre of both the city and Catalonia, occupying the site of the forum of the Roman city of Barcino. It is flanked by two facing institutions: the Palace of the Generalitat of Catalonia and Barcelona's City Hall. The square took its present open form in the early 19th century and remains a focal point for civic celebrations and Catalan traditions such as castellers.
