Background
About Capet
The Story
Capet opened in the Gothic Quarter in spring 2018, founded by chef Armando Alvarez and his partner Nuria as an expanded follow-up to their original Petit Capet in Gracia. Alvarez began cooking in 1999 at his parents' inn Leche y Miel in Puerto la Cruz, Venezuela, before building a career that led him to Barcelona. The Michelin Guide selected Capet for its updated and sincere take on traditional cooking, recognising the quality of Alvarez's seasonal approach in a characterful two-storey space on Carrer del Cometa.
The Cuisine
Capet serves seasonal Spanish cuisine rooted in three principles: proximity, temporality, and craft. The Michelin Guide describes chef Armando Alvarez as championing an updated and sincere take on traditional cooking, offered through a la carte options and two tasting menus of 5 and 8 courses. The kitchen works with market fish, rice dishes, meats, and seasonal produce, accompanied by a curated selection of natural, biodynamic, and terroir-driven wines chosen to complement the food.
The Team
Chef-owner Armando Alvarez leads the kitchen at Capet, working at the open-plan ground-floor kitchen where diners seated at the counter can watch every dish being assembled. His partner Nuria manages the front of house and curates the wine list, which features natural and biodynamic selections. Barcelona praised Alvarez as a young chef who more than deserves a spot on any list of the best in the city.
