Gothic Quarter
The Gothic Quarter (Barri Gòtic) is the historic centre of Barcelona's old city, part of Ciutat Vella, stretching from La Rambla to Via Laietana. Its origins lie in Barcino, the Roman settlement founded around 15 BC, and remnants of the Roman walls and temple columns survive among medieval churches and Gothic palaces, including the former Jewish quarter known as El Call. Despite its name, much of the present-day fabric of the quarter dates to the 19th and early 20th centuries.
