Agut
Agut opened in 1924 on a quiet street in el Barri Gòtic and spent nearly a century as a family-run Catalan restaurant serving port workers, sailors, and civil servants from the nearby City Hall.
Background
About Agut
The Story
Agut opened in 1924 when Agustí Agut set up an inn on Carrer d'en Gignàs, feeding port workers, sailors, and civil servants from the nearby City Hall and central Post Office. The restaurant stayed in the Castellví-Agut family for 97 years before closing in April 2021 during the pandemic. In September 2022 the Pitapes restaurant group reopened the dining room, preserving the antique furniture and modernist paintings that defined the space.
The Cuisine
Agut serves traditional Catalan cuisine in a historic Gothic Quarter setting. The kitchen focuses on regional classics using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients.
The Team
The restaurant is operated by the Pitapes restaurant group, which also runs Pitapes Mollet del Vallès, Pitapes Granollers, and Socarrat. Xavier Tutó is one of the Pitapes partners overseeing the Agut project.
