Background

About Casa Maians

The Story

Casa Maians opened in 2022 on Carrer de Sant Carles, a quiet Barceloneta street a short walk from the beach. Partners Roger Soteras, who cooks, and Fuensanta Hernández, who runs the front of house, built the ten-table dining room as a small, family-run kitchen rooted in the neighbourhood's fishing history. They know many of their guests by name.

The Cuisine

The kitchen centres on cuina de mercat, Catalan market cooking with a Mediterranean and Balearic accent. Expect rice in every form (dry paella-style and brothy arrossos caldosos), seasonal seafood from the lonja, and mar i muntanya combinations. The fish blackboard changes daily according to what's landed that morning; look for black squid-ink rice with octopus or cuttlefish with artichokes, and arròs amb gambes or llamàntol when the shellfish is running.

The Team

Roger Soteras leads the kitchen, bringing experience from years cooking in Ibiza and a personal connection to Balearic cuisine alongside the Catalan coast. Fuensanta Hernández runs the dining room, greeting guests and guiding them through the daily catch. With only ten tables, the service is personal and unhurried.

Casa Maians Dining Experience

Casa Maians is tiny, around ten tables in a warm, unfussy dining room with wooden beams, rustic furniture, tiled walls, and a blackboard of the day's fish. The feel is that of a family-run neighbourhood kitchen where regulars and first-timers are treated the same.
