The first is an intimate room: low light, close tables, a setting that feels like a discovery, think candlelit Modernista salons, a hidden garden terrace, a small counter where the kitchen cooks a few feet away. The second is a view: a glass dining room over the port, a hillside terrace, a rooftop facing the Sagrada Família. Both are romantic, but they suit different nights. For a long, quiet conversation, go for the intimate rooms. For a celebration where the setting carries the evening, the view spots win. A couple on this list lean lively, with a DJ and a busy room, which we've flagged so you can choose on purpose.

Romantic dinner with a view, or an intimate room?

If you want to talk all night, pick an intimate room: Le Cucine Mandarosso, a Restaurant on Plaça de Sant Felip Neri, Contraban's fireplace-warmed hotel patio, the 16-seat âme, Roig Robí's enclosed garden. If you want the wow, the view spots deliver: Torre d'Alta Mar wraps a dining room in glass 75 metres up, Martínez looks out from the Montjuïc hillside, Maymanta and Nobu sit on hotel rooftops, and 1881 per Sagardi has the Port Vell panorama. Note that Nobu and 1881 run livelier, with music and a buzzier crowd, so they're better for a celebratory date than a hushed one.

How much does a romantic dinner in Barcelona cost?

There's a romantic option at every budget. Under €25 a head gets you Le Cucine Mandarosso, the small Sant Pere trattoria that opened on Valentine's Day. Around €40 to €70 covers most of the mid-range picks, Casa Xica, JOK, a Restaurant, Roig Robí, Bacaro. The view rooms and the starred kitchens run higher: Torre d'Alta Mar is €80 to €150 a head, Moments and the fine-dining picks more again. Tasting menus, where they exist (âme €84, Fronda Pasaje €70, Moments from €125), are the set-price route. Wine pairings add to all of it.

It's on the Barcelona Slow Food list. The squeeze-in, two-up-two-down feel makes it a charming, low-key date, just book ahead, because the room is genuinely small.
