Museo del Prado
The Museo del Prado is Spain's national art museum on Paseo del Prado, established in 1819 under King Ferdinand VII. Its building was originally designed in 1785 by Juan de Villanueva on the orders of Charles III. It holds European art from the 12th to early 20th century drawn largely from the former Spanish royal collection, and is especially known for its works by Francisco Goya, Diego Velázquez and Hieronymus Bosch, including Velázquez's Las Meninas.
