Background
About Atocha 107
The Story
Atocha 107 opened in 2020 on the historic Calle de Atocha, in the Barrio de las Letras, on the first floor of the Atocha Hotel Madrid (Tapestry Collection by Hilton), halfway between Atocha station and the Madrid de los Austrias. The room is quiet and elegant, and in warmer months its terrace becomes an urban oasis. It's recommended in the Guía Repsol.
The Cuisine
Spanish, modern-creative in style, with a tasting menu alongside the carta. The menu is published on the restaurant's own site.
Starters and Spoon Dishes
The winter 2026 carta opens with baba ganoush with pita, an artisan pâté de campagne with foie, 'Joaco' croquetas of roast chicken, ham and egg at €3 each, a tomato salad with house pickles and anchovies, onions stuffed with house-preserved bonito, acorn-fed Ibérico ham, fried artichokes with red mojo, a house pastrami with barbecue sauce, 'Masbrava' crisp pig's ear with brava sauce, and gnocchi with tuna botarga, mostly €16 to €18. From the spoon come Asturian fabes with free-range chicken, Tolosa red beans with pickled piparras, and a creamy 'senyoret' rice with squid for two or more.
From the Sea and the Land
Fish is the day's catch according to market and season, with pan-seared striped prawns with flor de sal and a marinated bluefin tuna tartare with guacamole. From the land there's a roast veal shank on the bone for sharing, a 1.4 kg free-range roast chicken with papas and mojo, Chateaubriand with seasonal mushrooms, a 500 g aged-beef entrecôte, an acorn-fed Ibérico cheek on the bone, gratin cannelloni, a bunless beef burger with mushrooms and sobrasada, and Angus 'pichicallos' a la madrileña. Mains run about €22 to €39. The kitchen also serves breakfast, including a buffet.
The Terrace
In warmer months the terrace becomes the draw: an intimate, leafy corner hidden a few steps from the Reina Sofía, away from the traffic on Atocha. The restaurant is open 365 days a year with continuous service from 13:00 to 22:00, so it works for a late lunch after the museums. It has hosted food and wine events such as a Monday series on Spain's smaller wine DOs and a week of wild Alaskan fish.
The Chef
Joaquín Felipe Peira
The Team
Joaquín Felipe Peira belongs to the generation of Spanish chefs who pushed Madrid cooking forward from the 1990s, with more than forty years at the stove as chef and consultant to some of the city's restaurants. He learned first at home from his mother, Doña Pilar, and then from his master and mentor Luis Irizar. His cooking is Madrid cooking, joining classic, sometimes humble recipes to modern technique, and he describes himself as a tireless traveller to market gardens, fish markets and fishing boats in search of product: tuna, salt cod, wild salmon, Ibérico pork and mushrooms above all.
