Zerain
Zerain
Zerain is a Basque restaurant in the Barrio de las Letras, styled after a traditional Basque sidrería with red-brick walls, wrought-iron columns and finishes of wood and stone. A mother-and-son family, Adelaida and Koldo, opened it in 1997, a couple of steps from the Museo Lope de Vega and the Hotel Palace. The kitchen is traditional Basque, built on top produce and cooked to order, with large salons for groups and events.

Background
About Zerain
The Story
Zerain was opened in 1997 by a mother and son, Adelaida and Koldo, who kept the building's red-brick walls and wrought-iron columns and dressed the room in wood and stone to evoke a classic Basque asador and cider house. There's a piano, and the walls carry paintings by artists who are also regulars.
The Cuisine
The cooking is traditional Basque, built to let excellent raw materials speak, with everything prepared to order in the style of a Basque asador and cider house.
Groups and events
Zerain has large salons for group meals and celebrations, with four set group menus for September 2026: €59.90, €70, €89.90 and the Gran Menú Zerain at €145, all including VAT, and the top one can be customised.

Nearby
Barrio de las Letras is the old literary quarter, narrow and atmospheric, with quotations set into the paving. The eating is unusually varied for so small an area, from taverns and cocktail bars to kitchens working at a serious level. Museo del Prado and Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza are on the doorstep.
