Estadi Olímpic

The Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys is a stadium on Montjuïc hill, originally built for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition and designed by architect Pere Domènech i Roura, opening on 20 May 1929. It was extensively renovated in the late 1980s to serve as the main stadium for the 1992 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. In 2001 it was renamed after Lluís Companys, the former president of the Generalitat executed at nearby Montjuïc Castle in 1940.
