La Font del Gat
La Font del Gat
La Font del Gat is a historic Montjuïc merendero housed in a 1925 Puig i Cadafalch pavilion inside the Jardins de Laribal. Reopened in April 2025 by Grup Confiteria, it revives the tradition of the Fontades, outdoor weekend gatherings around the fountain with food, drink and live music.
Background
About La Font del Gat
The Story
La Font del Gat was a well-known merendero on Montjuïc in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, where Barcelonins gathered at weekends for the Fontades, popular dances around the spring with food and drink. In 1925, Josep Puig i Cadafalch built the current pavilion to house the restaurant. A century later, Grup Confiteria reopened the site in April 2025 as a modern interpretation of the Fontades, pairing a short grill-led carta with live music, temporary exhibitions and outdoor cinema in the Laribal gardens.
The Cuisine
The carta is a short, grill-focused Catalan menu built around tapas, cured meats and cheeses, and set menus organised as Grill Set, Sardines Set, Veggie Set and, on Sundays and public holidays, a Rice Set. Dishes rely on named suppliers such as Cal Rovira (cured sausage, botifarra) and Kike Ojanguren (cheeses). Typical spend sits between €25 and €50 per person.
The Team
The project is run by Grup Confiteria, the Barcelona hospitality group founded by Enric Rebordosa and Lito Baldovinos that also operates the World's 50 Best Bars venues Paradiso and Dr. Stravinsky, alongside restaurants such as Cafè del Centre and Bar Muy Buenas. Specific chef attribution for the kitchen has not been published by the restaurant.
