Hotel Brummell sits behind a preserved 1870s facade on Carrer Nou de la Rambla, in Poble-sec. Architect Inma Rábano rebuilt the interior, and the plan turns around a courtyard: that's where the pool is, with deck chairs on the paving and planting along the water. The hotel belongs to the Brummell Projects group, which also runs apartments in Barcelona and properties in Marrakech.

Café Schallert is the in-house café, Austrian-inspired, and it's where breakfast happens: a buffet brought to your table with freshly baked breads and croissants, cheeses and cold cuts, and eggs cooked to order. Vegan-friendly and gluten-free options are available, and the coffee is specialty from Three Marks Coffee. It's a café rather than a full restaurant, which is about right for 20 rooms.
