Background

About La Saletta

The Story

La Saletta started as a stall in the Mercado de Antón Martín and grew within the market, taking on an extra space to keep up with demand. It calls itself a fiaschetteria, the Italian word for a wine-and-food shop, and the cooking is Italian home-style. In December 2025 it reopened after a refurbishment.

The Cuisine

Italian home cooking centred on pizza, with fresh pasta, salads and sharing plates such as porchetta, and Italian desserts like tiramisù and cannolo siciliano. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diets can be accommodated.

Pizza and Weekly Pasta

Pizza leads the menu; a December 2025 post shows one topped with rocket, ham and shaved cheese. Alongside them come salads, sharing plates such as porchetta, and pasta, with weekly suggestions posted by the house: in March 2025, for example, boletus ravioli with parmesan cream and truffle, paccheri with the cook's grandmother's ragù, and tagliolini with prawn bisque and courgette cream. Mains on the carta sit at roughly €18–32.

Booking and Diets

Reservations are recommended at weekends and on holidays, by phone or through the contact page, and walk-ins are seated when there's a free table. There's a private dining room for small celebrations and work meals. The kitchen adapts dishes for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diets and for allergies if you tell the staff when ordering.

Getting There

Inside the Mercado de Antón Martín, at Calle de Santa Isabel 5, in the Embajadores barrio of Centro on the edge of Lavapiés.

Nearby

Embajadores is old working Madrid, dense and unpolished, and it rewards anyone willing to walk its side streets. The eating runs from taverns that have been there for generations to newer rooms doing something quite different. El Rastro spills through it on market days, and Lavapiés is the same conversation continued uphill.
