The Story
La Tuerta Funky Castizo opened in July 2019 in Lavapiés, pairing good food and cocktails. By its own account it took the best-opening-of-the-year award for 2019 at FIBAR, the Spanish cocktail fair, followed by two nominations in 2020 and two more in 2021, for best cocktail bar with restaurant and best cocktail menu.

The concept sets two ideas against each other, tradition and the avant-garde: a plant-based kitchen that revisits traditional Madrid (castizo) cooking with a flavour-first turn. The carta runs to ensaladilla rusa, bimi bravas with cocido cream, leeks vinaigrette with harissa, homemade pisto, oyster-mushroom ceviche, a lentil panang curry, confit artichokes and mushroom tinga tacos, with free-range eggs from a local farm as an optional supplement. Natural-leaning wines, sherry and a trend-driven cocktail list to drink.
