About Casa Felisa

The Story

Casa Felisa is the restaurant of the Hotel Urso on Calle de la Beneficencia, with its own door to the street as well as an entrance through the hotel. It used to be Media Ración; when that contract ended the room was renamed Casa Felisa, after a fictional hostess whose voice runs through the carta. The house's line is that the table exists to make a fuss of tradition, and that enjoying yourself means wiping the plate, laughing out loud and toasting for no reason. In April 2026 Madrid chef Rafa Cordón took over the kitchen. It's listed in the Guía Repsol.

The Cuisine

Classic Spanish and Madrileño cooking with a few eccentric touches, the cooking of grandmothers and mothers, built on seasonal, local produce: fruit and vegetables from the nearby Mercado de Barceló and bread from Obrador San Francisco. The cellar leans on Spanish wines, with a long list by the glass and a separate Champagne list.

For Hunger and Impatience

The first section of the carta is 'for hunger, cravings and impatience': Santoña anchovies with smoked butter on flaky bread, salt-cod pavía with aioli, the house's homemade empanadillas, crimped shut with a fork the old way, soufflé potatoes with brava sauce, Ibérico ham croquetas, acorn-fed Dehesa de los Monteros ham and Osetra caviar with homemade blinis. Then come Felisa's ensaladilla rusa, a green salad with snow peas and Idiazábal, escalivada with romesco, cured sea bream sashimi with red grapes, a salpicón of red prawns with yellow potatoes, grilled artichokes with Ibérico jowl, clams a la marinera and pulpo a la gallega with potato foam.

Mains and the Forbidden

Mains run from about €24 to €34: baby squid with cauliflower, peas and squid broth, a seafood rice with red prawn carpaccio, roast sea bass with suquet and parsnips, grilled veal sweetbreads with samphire, steak tartare with a fried egg, an Ibérico pork chop with pepper sauce, and dry-aged beef tenderloin with Périgord sauce, Manchego aligot and shallots; for two, grilled monkfish a la bilbaína or skirt steak with patatas panaderas. The desserts, billed as 'the forbidden', include caramelised walnuts with cream and Madrid honey, Felisa's rice pudding, a millefeuille, a chocolate mousse with smoked-cheese ice cream and a lemon tart with dill and cardamom. There's a menú del día on weekday lunches and a five-course Menú de Felisa from Sunday to Thursday evenings.

The Team

Rafael 'Rafa' Cordón, 45, grew up in a family where hospitality was part of daily life. He has cooked in Spain and abroad, including kitchens of high technical demand, and during the pandemic ran social projects training young people at risk of exclusion. He wants guests to say a dish reminded them of home, sources locally, and rides his bike to work.

Justicia is the quieter, better-dressed half of the Chueca side of town, all narrow streets and small shopfronts. Mercado de San Antón anchors the eating, and around it sit grill rooms, wine bars and places that fill late. It is central without ever feeling like the centre.
