Background

About Azotea Barceló

The Story

Azotea Barceló sits on the roof of the Mercado de Barceló, four floors up, in the Tribunal area. Run by Azotea Grupo, it's a terrace full of plants that opens at 10:00 and serves brunch before anything else, so it works as a morning stop as much as a rooftop drink, and it hosts events of up to 250 people.

The Cuisine

Rooftop bar food and brunch. The brunch is the headline, with eggs Benedict and avocado-and-salmon toast, and the day carta runs from patatas bravas and ibérico ham croquetas to a board of jamón ibérico and a ceviche limeño. Cocktails mix the classics with more creative serves.

The Team

Chef Manu Berganza runs the kitchen and Luca Anastasio the cocktail list, both for Azotea Grupo, and diners often name the floor staff for their service.

Experience

Azotea Barceló Dining Experience

It's a rooftop, so the view does most of the work and the terrace is the point. Doors open at 10:00, which makes it a morning room as much as an evening one, with a stylish crowd.

Justicia is the quieter, better-dressed half of the Chueca side of town, all narrow streets and small shopfronts. Mercado de San Antón anchors the eating, and around it sit grill rooms, wine bars and places that fill late. It is central without ever feeling like the centre.
