Background

About Malparit

The Story

Malparit is the fourth project from Grupo No Hay Mañana, led by restaurateur Leo Chechelnitzky, joining Babula Bar 1937, Madre Taberna Moderna, and Chamako. The name is a cheeky Catalan colloquialism, in keeping with the group's playful tagline 'menjars de puta mare'. The concept pairs a casual tapas bar at the front with a more formal dining room at the back, designed by Genialidades with hand-crafted ceramic tiles, chequered floors, stainless steel countertops, and an exposed-truss skylight.

The Cuisine

The kitchen serves modern Catalan cuisine built around a wood-and-ember charcoal grill. The menu spans Normandy oysters (natural or grilled), Cantabrian anchovies, the Babula Bar 1937 steak tartare, grilled octopus with smoked pancetta, open tortillas with seasonal mushrooms and red prawn, twelve-hour suckling lamb shoulder, and aged Rubia Gallega chuletón. Prices land around 40 EUR per person without drinks.

The Team

Owner Leo Chechelnitzky oversees the group, with chefs Alfredo Rodríguez and Andy Feher leading the kitchen. Rodríguez previously ran the stoves at Babula Bar after training at Le Suquet and Grupo Tragaluz. The wine program carries roughly 150 references with 15 by the glass, leaning toward small producers.
