Background

About Speakeasy

The Story

Speakeasy opened in February 2002 in what was once the warehouse of the Dry Martini cocktail bar at Carrer d'Aribau, 162, founded by bartender Javier de las Muelas. The dining room is reached by walking through the Dry Martini bar and its kitchen to a concealed back-room entrance. The space is designed as a tribute to the clandestine restaurants of 1920s Chicago and New York, the Prohibition-era speakeasies that gave the room its name.

The Cuisine

A Mediterranean market-driven carte anchored by pasta, risotto, rice dishes, grilled fish and meats, paired with an extensive cocktail programme from the Dry Martini team. Signatures on the current carte include creamy truffle risotto with mushrooms and foie, coconut and ginger octopus Filipino-style, Balfegó tuna sashimi, lobster brothy rice, suckling pig from Segovia and a chateaubriand for two. Multi-course food and cocktail pairing menus are also offered, where each dish is built around a specific cocktail.

The Team

Speakeasy was conceived by Javier de las Muelas, the founder of the Dry Martini cocktail bar on Carrer d'Aribau, as a clandestine back-room restaurant connected to his cocktail programme.
