Mirador de Colom

A 60-metre monument to Christopher Columbus at the lower end of La Rambla by Port Vell, built between 1882 and 1888 for the Universal Exposition of Barcelona. Designed by Catalan architect Gaietà Buïgas i Monravà, it features a bronze statue of Columbus atop a tall Corinthian column with bronze bas-reliefs depicting his voyage. It commemorates Columbus's reception by the Catholic Monarchs in Barcelona, and an interior elevator carries visitors to a viewing platform near the top.
