Background

About Agreste Mar

The Story

Agreste Mar is the second project of Chef Fabio Gambirasi and his partner Roser. Their first restaurant, Agreste, earned 1 Sol in the Repsol Guide. Agreste Mar opened at the Serras Barcelona hotel on Passeig de Colom, bringing the same philosophy, Italian technique, Catalan produce, seasonal discipline, to a larger and more prominent stage. Gambirasi trained in Michelin-starred restaurants in France and Italy before returning to Barcelona, where he has built a reputation for cooking that respects both the ingredient and the tradition it comes from. The move to the Serras Hotel gives him a kitchen and a dining room that match his ambitions.

The Cuisine

Gambirasi describes his cuisine as Italo-Catalan: creations that strike a balance between tradition and innovation, using the most seasonal produce and delving into local and Italian flavors and traditions. The menu emphasises ecological, seasonal, and local ingredients, selected carefully and prepared precisely. Pasta is a kitchen signature, from 24-month Parmesan cappelletti to handmade fettuccine with anchovy, fennel and lemon, and nettle ravioli with butter and bottarga. Mains lean on Catalan produce and Italian technique, from grilled fish of the day to Arturo Sánchez Iberian pork Milanese and pigeon with blackberry and mustard sauce.

The Team

The kitchen is led by Chef Fabio Gambirasi, trained in Michelin-starred restaurants in France and Italy, who runs Agreste Mar alongside his partner Roser. The Serras Hotel setting provides an elevated backdrop for a kitchen resolutely focused on the cooking, with a polished and attentive floor team.

Experience

Agreste Mar Dining Experience

Agreste Mar is set within the Serras Hotel, a carefully restored historic building on Passeig de Colom, with a façade originally designed in the 19th century by Francesc Daniel Molina (of Plaça Reial fame). The dining room is elegant, modern, and considered, with leather chairs, warm timber surfaces, and an open view into the kitchen pass. Service is polished and unhurried, which suits a menu that rewards a slow, multi-course meal. The waterfront location, steps from Port Vell and the Columbus Monument, adds an ambient quality: this is Barcelona at its most historically layered.

Agreste Mar Location & Neighbourhood

Getting There

Agreste Mar is located within the Serras Barcelona hotel on Passeig de Colom, the broad boulevard that runs along the waterfront between the Columbus Monument and Port Vell. The Barri Gòtic is immediately to the north; the marina and Barcelona's recreational port are directly south. This is one of Barcelona's most historically significant locations: the old city meets the sea. Drassanes metro (L3) is a five-minute walk.

Nearby

El Barri Gòtic is Barcelona's Gothic Quarter, the historic core of the city, built on and around the remains of the Roman settlement of Barcino. Passeig de Colom, where Agreste Mar sits, marks the southern edge of the Gothic Quarter: the point where the old city meets the port. The Columbus Monument stands at one end; Port Vell's marinas begin at the other. This stretch of Barcelona has been a gateway between city and sea for two millennia. The restaurant sits in a zone that is simultaneously one of the city's most historically layered addresses and one of its most active contemporary dining areas.
