The Story

Assalto Bar de Vins opened in El Raval as a second project alongside chef Matteo Bertozzi's nearby My Fucking Restaurant, just 41 metres away on Carrer Nou de la Rambla. The restaurant was born, in its own words, 'with the purpose of sharing wines, dishes and tapas in a cozy establishment and letting yourself be surprised by unique preparations.' The wine programme is the anchor -- a cellar of more than 150 local, national and international references, including bottles recommended by the house such as Clos Martinet from Priorat, Planella from Montsant and Timothee Stroebel Champagne.

The Cuisine

The kitchen champions seasonal, locally sourced produce with Mediterranean inspiration and what the house calls an 'esperit canalla i joganer' (cheeky and playful spirit). Premium preserves, seasonal Catalan vegetables and dry-aged meats anchor the menu: Galician beef aged 45 or 90 days, steak tartare on sourdough toasts, bunyols de bacalla 'El Barquero' with honey aioli, truffle potato tortilla, Arcano Maldonado hand-cut Iberico ham, and huevos estrellados with garlic prawns. Shared tasting menus are offered at 35 EUR per person (tapas) and 52 EUR per person (two or three diners).

The Team

Chef Matteo Bertozzi leads the kitchen, bringing the same creative energy that made My Fucking Restaurant a Raval landmark. Front-of-house includes bartender Massimo Palmieri, who created the house Sake Assalto cocktail (lemon, sugar, sake and gin foam infused with rosemary). Guests are often hosted by Nacho, mentioned by repeat diners for wine-cellar tours in the sotano bodega that doubles as a private dining room for groups of six or more.
