Best Tapas in Palma

Introduction

The Mallorca Tapas List We Send to Friends

Bar Espanya runs a Repsol Solete pinchos counter on a narrow street off Plaça Major, piled high with pinchos from €2.45. La Rosa Vermutería & Colmado, on Carrer de la Rosa, keeps the old Balearic vermouth-and-provisions format alive, pouring vermouth alongside cured goods and conservas. Bodega La Rambla has served its Mallorcan variat platters on Via Roma since 1940, no reservations taken. Ten of the thirteen spots on this list sit inside Palma's old town, from La Bóveda's barrel-vaulted room on the corner of La Llotja to El Camino's Barrafina-style counter just off Passeig del Born.

A Guide to Tapas in Mallorca

The scene

Santa Catalina and the area west of the old town add two more angles. Bar Joan Frau (Can Frau) has run a market-stall counter at the Mercat de Santa Catalina since 1966, and won the “Premi Millor Variat” at the II Premis Gastronòmics Mallorca gala in October 2024. Stagier Bar, a few streets over, is a roughly seven-table, Michelin-listed small-plates room from a Chilean-Peruvian couple. La Pérgola sits further out in Son Armadans, near El Terreno, the only pick on this list that isn't walkable from the old town. This list covers 13 tapas and pinchos spots in Palma, drawn from Guidavera's own verified restaurant data: menus, opening hours, Michelin and Repsol listings, and diner ratings pulled directly from each venue's own site, menu PDF, or Instagram. La Bóveda's own priced carta couldn't be independently verified this pass, so no specific dishes or prices are listed for it here; ask for the current menu when you sit down. Confirm hours before visiting: Bodega La Rambla is currently on its annual summer break and its own site lists a reopening date of 4 September 2026.

What's the difference between tapas and pinchos in Palma?

Tapas are small savoury dishes ordered to share at a bar or table. Pinchos (or pintxos) are the Basque-style version: pre-made bites laid out on a counter and paid for per piece. Palma has both formats: Bar Espanya and La Pérgola run pincho counters, while most of this list serves tapas à la carte.

Which Palma tapas bars are decades-old local institutions?

Bodega La Rambla has served variats on Via Roma since 1940, Bar Joan Frau has run its Mercat de Santa Catalina counter since 1966, and La Bodeguilla has worked as a restaurant and wine shop on Carrer de Sant Jaume since 1986.

Is there a Michelin-listed tapas restaurant in Palma?

Yes. Stagier Bar in Santa Catalina and La Bodeguilla on Carrer de Sant Jaume are both listed in the Michelin Guide as Selected, meaning they appear in the guide without holding a star or Bib Gourmand.

How We Built This List

Years of Eating, Asking, and Going Back

We built this list from a nine-source consensus pass across local, blog and national coverage of Palma tapas, cross-checked against Guidavera's own verified Palma restaurant data: menus, opening hours, Michelin and Repsol listings, and diner ratings pulled directly from each venue's own site or menu PDF. Restaurante Zaranda, a two-Michelin-star tasting-menu restaurant that turned up in one source's tapas roundup, is left off this list because it doesn't serve tapas as a format, only a fixed tasting menu with no à la carte small-plate option. A few venues that surfaced in the same source pass, including Ca n'Ela, an all-vegan Old Town kitchen with an evening à la carte, aren't in the main ranking because their small-plates format wasn't confirmed strongly enough to rank with confidence; see the honourable mention below. Where a detail couldn't be verified, including La Bóveda's current carta, we've said so directly rather than guessing.

More on how we rank: our methodology and quality standards.

#33 of 338··Sant Nicolau·Tapas & Pinchos

Bar Espanya runs its original bar on Carrer de Can Escursac, a narrow street just off Plaça Major in Palma's old town, built around a counter piled with pinchos rather than table service alone. Guía Repsol lists it as a Solete, its recognition for straightforward, well-run bars and restaurants, and The Infatuation's Mallorca guide has reviewed it as a pinchos stop near Plaça Major. The menu runs from a €2.45 bar-counter pincho and croquetas up to a €17.50 jamón ibérico board, with vegetarian and vegan options marked on the card; Guía Repsol singles out the llonguets and mini hamburgers as the bar's signature order. A second Bar Espanya, same menu, runs at Plaça de Raimundo Clar in the Sa Gerreria neighbourhood. Diners rate it 4.6/5 on TripAdvisor (2,136 reviews, 2025 Travelers' Choice) and a similar 4.6/5 on Google. It's open daily, roughly 13:00-15:30 and 18:30-23:00, though some third-party listings report a Sunday closure not confirmed on the restaurant's own booking system.

La Rosa Vermutería & Colmado sits on Carrer de la Rosa in Palma's old centre, part of the La Rosa Troupe group, and works in the classic Balearic mould: a vermouth bar that doubles as a provisions shop, serving traditional gastronomy at the bar with vermouth sitting alongside cured goods and conservas. It's about an 8-minute walk from Palma Cathedral. Diners rate it 4.5/5 on Google across 7,447 reviews and 4.2/5 on TripAdvisor from 1,433 reviews, a scale of engagement that points to a genuine local institution rather than a tourist-only stop. It's open daily from midday to midnight; book online at larosavermuteria.myrestoo.net or by phone.

#79 of 338··La Rambla / Plaça des Patins (Centre)·Spanish / Mallorcan tapas

Bodega La Rambla is an old-school tavern on Via Roma, at the north end of La Rambla in central Palma, that has served tapas and variats since 1940, per its own branding (“Variats y Tapas desde 1940”). The kitchen's specialty is the variat mallorquí, a shared platter combining several classic tapas: the house De la casa variat runs octopus fritters, the “ensaladilla La Rambla,” hake, fried calamari, pica-pica, breaded vegetables and mushrooms, priced from €6.25 for a small portion. It doesn't take table reservations except for private events, so expect a wait at peak lunch hours; standing room at the bar up front is often quicker than the sit-down dining room behind it. Diners rate it 4.6/5 on Google (1,048 reviews) and 4.2/5 on TripAdvisor (407 reviews, #264 of 2,669 Palma restaurants). It's closed Tuesday and Wednesday, and its own site currently lists it on annual summer break, reopening 4 September 2026, so confirm before visiting.

OMBU began as a tapas bar on Passeig del Born in Palma's La Llotja-Born old town and has grown into a two-address operation, with a newer OMBU in the Santa Catalina neighbourhood; both run under the Forn Projects group, which also owns Forn de Sant Joan nearby. The tapas menu mixes Mediterranean small plates like burrata and roasted aubergine with Asian-leaning dishes: Peking duck gyozas in black garlic hoisin sauce, salmon maki-causa, and a Pad Thai with langoustines or tofu, plus a cocktail, spritzer, sangria and wine list. OMBU Born adds a separate breakfast menu (8:30-12:00) not served at the Santa Catalina address. Diners rate the Born location 4.4/5 on both TripAdvisor (3,142 reviews) and Google (5,516 reviews); the newer Santa Catalina location runs 4.3/5 on TripAdvisor and 4.5/5 on Google. OMBU Born is open daily 8:30-23:00; OMBU Santa Catalina runs 13:00-22:30, extending to 23:00 on Friday and Saturday.

Michelin Selected

La Bodeguilla has worked as both a restaurant and a wine shop on Carrer de Sant Jaume since 1986, across a two-floor room where wine barrels double as tables, about a 7-minute walk from Sa Llotja. It's a family business, part of Grupo Amida, the Palma hospitality group also behind Periplo Portixol. The tapas menu runs from Iberian ham and oysters to croquetas, and the kitchen leans on Spanish product cooked with what it calls “sencillez, humildad y técnica,” simplicity, humility and technique. The cellar is the other half of the draw: more than 300 Spanish and international wine references, which the restaurant itself calls its second great asset alongside the food. It's listed in the Michelin Guide as Selected. Diners rate it 4.4/5 on Google (2,896 reviews) and 4.3/5 on TripAdvisor (1,413 reviews). It's open daily for lunch and dinner, 13:00-23:00, no weekly closure.

#91 of 338·€€·La Llotja·Basque-Castilian Tapas

La Bóveda sits on Carrer de la Boteria, right on the corner of Plaça de la Llotja in Palma's old town, a few steps from the Cathedral. The name means “vault” in Spanish, and independent write-ups point to a barrel-vaulted dining room as the source of it, with wooden barrels, hanging Iberian hams, wine-bottle shelves and azulejo-tiled walls. The kitchen cooks Basque-Castilian tapas and classic Spanish small plates à la carte, per the restaurant's own Instagram bio; no priced carta could be independently verified online, so ask for the current menu when you sit down. Cross-platform aggregation shows it rating 4.1/5 on Google (880 reviews) and 4.6/5 on Facebook (435 reviews), with a more middling 3.7/5 on TripAdvisor (roughly 661 reviews); reviewer comments split between an authentic, long-running favourite and a busier, more touristed take on a corner where prices run a bit higher than expected. It serves lunch and dinner Monday to Saturday and is closed Sunday, though sources disagree on the exact opening and closing minutes.

  • Carta (à la carte tapas)La Bóveda serves Basque-Castilian tapas and classic Spanish small plates à la carte rather than a fixed tasting menu. La Pérgola runs on Avinguda de Joan Miró in Palma's Son Armadans area, near El Terreno, west of the old town and not walkable from the centre. Its own site describes 15 years as “a reference on the island,” and cold pintxos and a variety of gildas are displayed on the bar to order directly at the counter, alongside a printed menu of hot pintxos (from €3 for mushrooms up to €6 for toasted bread with grilled foie), classic tapas, tacos, mini burgers and larger plates like a whole cachopo at €34. The kitchen describes its concept as Basque and Mediterranean gastronomy with a contemporary touch. Diners rate it 4.4/5 on Google (1,677+ reviews) and 4.3/5 on TripAdvisor (526 reviews, 2025 Travelers' Choice, #513 of 6,260 Palma restaurants). Its current summer schedule runs Monday to Saturday, 18:00-00:00, closed Sundays, though its printed menu lists a different hours block, so it's worth confirming before you go.

#14 of 43··Santa Catalina, Palma·Vermutería / Mallorcan market bar

Bar Joan Frau, known as Can Frau, runs at stalls 8-9 of the Mercat de Santa Catalina, Palma's covered food market, run by the Frau family since 1966. It's known for homemade Mallorcan classics prepared fresh daily: panades, vegetable coca, cuttlefish or lamb frit, stuffed aubergines, callos, sopes mallorquines and paella. It won the “Premi Millor Variat” (Best Variat) at the II Premis Gastronòmics Mallorca gala in October 2024, as reported by Última Hora. Reviewers describe a busy, no-frills, market-stall bar that's become a neighbourhood gathering spot for locals, now joined by other Palma residents and visitors; it gets crowded, especially on Saturdays, and diners are expected to flag down staff for service. Diners rate it 4.7/5 on Google (799 reviews) and 4.6/5 on TripAdvisor (120 reviews); reviewers cite very low prices, a glass of white wine around €1.50 and a caña around €1.60, with two tapas often coming to under €10. It runs Tuesday to Saturday, roughly 07:00-16:00, closed Sunday and Monday, market hours only, so it's a lunch stop rather than a dinner one.

Michelin Selected

Stagier Bar is a tiny room in Santa Catalina, Palma's busiest neighbourhood for eating, run by a Chilean-Peruvian couple and listed in the Michelin Guide. With around seven tables, it reads more like a dinner party than a restaurant, so it books up fast. The current menu runs from croquettes and Gillardeau oysters to a sea bass and grilled octopus ceviche with rocoto tiger's milk, lomo saltado gyozas, a smoked steak tartare and a smoked wagyu hanger steak, with a warm chocolate and lucuma cake among the desserts. Diners rate it 4.7/5 on Google (651 reviews) and 4.6/5 on TripAdvisor (201 reviews). Hours shift by season: dinner only, Monday to Saturday, through summer, with a Tuesday-to-Friday lunch service added the rest of the year; closed Sundays. Reserve through the restaurant's own site or by phone.

#118 of 338·€€·Palma·Mediterranean

Toque de Queda opened in 2014, founded by Alicia Arduini and Andrea Cavate, both from the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. It sits in a restored bakery more than 60 years old, the former Forn Cremat, built around an old Arab oven the owners describe as one of the few left on the island, spread across three rooms and a terrace near La Rambla in central Palma. The menu is built for sharing: tapas like Roman-style gnocchi with smoked burrata and crispy speck, hot cocas, and Las Tablas charcuterie boards sourced from Italy, Catalonia, Galicia, France and Mallorca, running from a €16 half board up to a €53 whole board of acorn-fed Iberian ham. Diners rate it 4.7/5 on Google (1,411 reviews) and 4.6/5 on TripAdvisor (640 reviews). It's open Monday to Saturday, 18:00-23:30, closed Sunday.

La Vasca is on Carrer del Bonaire in central Palma; the restaurant's own site calls it the heart of the Grupo La Vasca group and the first venue it opened, in 2018. The concept leans on the Basque idea of the cuadrilla, the tight group of friends who become family, and the menu is built for shared eating: gildas, croquetas by the unit, broken eggs, and a dedicated Pintxos section including the Rabowich, described as the top seller, alongside a smaller Mains section of grilled octopus, hake tacos and aged Simmental beef entrecôte. It's open Tuesday to Saturday, 12:00-01:00, Monday 12:00-18:00, closed Sunday. Reserve by phone.

The Tapas Scene in Mallorca

Palma's tapas scene splits mostly between two old-town pockets. Around La Llotja and El Born, La Bóveda serves Basque-Castilian tapas in a barrel-vaulted room on the corner of Plaça de la Llotja, El Camino runs a Barrafina-style counter just off Passeig del Born from one of the founders of London's Barrafina, and La Bodeguilla and Tast Club both sit on Carrer de Sant Jaume, a Michelin-listed wine-shop-and-restaurant on one side and an underground raw bar on the other. Around Plaça Major and La Rambla, Bar Espanya piles pinchos onto its counter with a Repsol Solete to its name, Bodega La Rambla has served Mallorcan variats on Via Roma since 1940, and La Rosa Vermutería & Colmado keeps the old vermouth-and-provisions format going on Carrer de la Rosa. Santa Catalina holds Bar Joan Frau (Can Frau), a market-stall counter at the Mercat de Santa Catalina run by the same family since 1966, and Stagier Bar, a roughly seven-table, Michelin-listed small-plates room. La Pérgola, further out in Son Armadans near El Terreno, is the only stop on this list that isn't walkable from the centre.

Practical tips

Know before you go

A short survival guide for eating tapas in Mallorca— everything we wish we’d known on our first trip.

  1. 1

Most of this list closes Sunday

La Bóveda, La Pérgola, Tast Club, El Camino, Bar Joan Frau, Stagier Bar, Toque de Queda and La Vasca are all closed Sundays. El Camino and Bar Joan Frau are also closed Mondays. Bodega La Rambla is the exception, closed Tuesday and Wednesday instead.

  2. 2

Bodega La Rambla is currently on its summer break

The restaurant's own site lists it as closed for its annual summer vacation as of this writing, reopening 4 September 2026. Confirm before you plan a visit.

  3. 3

Bar Joan Frau only runs market hours

It's open Tuesday to Saturday, roughly 07:00 to 16:00, closed Sunday and Monday, so it's a lunch stop rather than a dinner one. It gets crowded, especially on Saturdays.

  4. 4

The old town splits into two pockets

La Llotja and El Born hold La Bóveda, El Camino, OMBU, La Bodeguilla and Tast Club. Plaça Major and La Rambla hold Bar Espanya, Bodega La Rambla, La Rosa Vermutería and Toque de Queda. Santa Catalina and Son Armadans sit further out.

  5. 5

    Reservations mostly run online

Most of these book through the venue's own site or a platform like myrestoo.net or CoverManager, rather than a phone call only. Check the venue's site first.

  6. 6

OMBU and Bar Espanya each run two Palma locations

OMBU's original address is on Passeig del Born, with a newer OMBU in Santa Catalina running the same menu. Bar Espanya's original bar is off Plaça Major, with a second location at Plaça de Raimundo Clar in Sa Gerreria, also the same menu.

By neighbourhood

Tapas by neighbourhood

Already know where you’re eating? Here’s where to find the best tapas in each of Mallorca’s key neighbourhoods.

La Llotja and El Born

Five of the thirteen spots on this list sit within a few streets of La Llotja, Palma's medieval merchants' exchange. La Bóveda runs a barrel-vaulted tapas tavern right on the corner of Plaça de la Llotja, El Camino serves Barrafina-style counter tapas just off Passeig del Born, and OMBU's original address sits on Passeig del Born itself. La Bodeguilla and Tast Club, both on Carrer de Sant Jaume, are about a 7 to 8 minute walk from Sa Llotja.

Plaça Major and the old town centre

Bar Espanya runs its original pinchos counter on a narrow street just off Plaça Major. Bodega La Rambla has served variats on Via Roma, at the top of La Rambla, since 1940. La Rosa Vermutería & Colmado works the classic vermouth-and-provisions format on Carrer de la Rosa, about an 8-minute walk from the Cathedral. Toque de Queda runs its Italian-leaning small plates out of a restored former bakery near La Rambla, and La Vasca serves Basque pintxos on Carrer del Bonaire.

Santa Catalina

Santa Catalina, the old fishermen's quarter built around its own covered market, holds two very different stops. Bar Joan Frau (Can Frau) has run a market-stall counter at the Mercat de Santa Catalina since 1966. Stagier Bar, a few streets away, is a roughly seven-table, Michelin-listed small-plates room.

Further out: Son Armadans

La Pérgola sits west of the old town in Son Armadans, near El Terreno, and isn't walkable from central Palma; plan on a bus, taxi, or drive. It's the only entry on this list outside the old town and Santa Catalina.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

All restaurants on this list were independently verified as open and serving the dishes described as of .

What's the difference between tapas and pinchos in Palma?

+

Tapas are small savoury dishes ordered to share at a bar or table. Pinchos (or pintxos) are the Basque-style version: pre-made bites laid out on a counter and paid for per piece. Palma has both formats: Bar Espanya and La Pérgola run pincho counters, while most of this list serves tapas à la carte.

Where's the best tapas in Palma's old town?

+

Most of this list sits inside Palma's old town. La Bóveda, El Camino, OMBU, La Bodeguilla and Tast Club cluster around La Llotja and El Born, while Bar Espanya, Bodega La Rambla, La Rosa Vermutería and Toque de Queda sit closer to Plaça Major and La Rambla.

Which Palma tapas bars are decades-old local institutions?

+

Bodega La Rambla has served variats on Via Roma since 1940, Bar Joan Frau has run its Mercat de Santa Catalina counter since 1966, and La Bodeguilla has worked as a restaurant and wine shop on Carrer de Sant Jaume since 1986.

What's an affordable tapas stop in Palma?

+

Bar Espanya, Bodega La Rambla and Bar Joan Frau (Can Frau) are the cheapest picks on this list. Bar Joan Frau's market counter runs a caña around €1.60, with two tapas often under €10; Bar Espanya's pinchos start at €2.45 each.

Is there a Michelin-listed tapas restaurant in Palma?

+

Yes. Stagier Bar in Santa Catalina and La Bodeguilla on Carrer de Sant Jaume are both listed in the Michelin Guide as Selected, meaning they appear in the guide without holding a star or Bib Gourmand.

Where can I get vermouth and conservas in Palma's old town?

+

La Rosa Vermutería & Colmado on Carrer de la Rosa works in the classic Balearic vermutería-and-colmado mould, vermouth served alongside cured goods and conservas at the bar, about an 8-minute walk from the Cathedral.
