Background

About Rosi la Loca

The Story

Rosi la Loca is named after its invented hostess, a fearless, dream-chasing traveller who describes herself as moving between dreams and reality, and the whole taberna is built as her colourful, fantastical world. The same group runs Bestial by Rosi la Loca, the sea-themed sibling on Calle del Prado.

The Cuisine

Sharing plates and rice: Ibérico ham, croquetas, bravas, a Spanish omelette, tacos, bao and burrata, then paellas, grilled octopus and Wagyu, with cocktails at the centre of the offer and vegetarian options.

What's on the Menu

The kitchen's 'locura' list is built for sharing. There's Ibérico ham, Rosi's croquetas, a burrata, a tandoori chicken salad, chicken curry meatballs, beef rib bao, tacos, a bikini toastie, beef-cheek cannelloni and pasta parcels with three cheeses and pear. The house makes big claims for two of its dishes, billing the bravas as the best in the world and the tortilla as the best in Madrid. For something more substantial there are paellas (free-range chicken, seafood, or a boletus rice), sautéed octopus, Pacific scallops, tuna tataki and udon with tuna tartare, an Argentine ribeye and Wagyu picanha. A 'crazy' tasting menu runs at €45 per person.

Cocktails and Sangria

Each cocktail comes with its own character: Crazy Cat, Sexy Kraken, Rosi in Hawaii, Barbie's Mojito, Crazy Queen and Doctor Tarrant are mostly €12, with alcohol-free options, spritzes and a negroni alongside. There's a cava-based Sangría Loka and a red sangria by the jug, house-label wines by the glass, and fruit lemonades in mango-passion fruit and lychee-coconut. Desserts include a cheesecake and a 'death by chocolate'. Bookings go through the restaurant's website, and the group also sells gift cards and hosts events.

Experience

Rosi la Loca Dining Experience

The whole room leans into colour and excess, decorated to the hilt and built for a night out rather than a quiet dinner. Cocktails are the draw and it works well for groups, and the late closing means it carries on after most kitchens have shut.

Getting There

It's on Calle de Cádiz, in the Sol district at the centre of Madrid.

Nearby

Sol is the dead centre of the city and behaves like it, busy and walked through by everyone heading somewhere else. The trick is knowing which doors are worth stopping at, because rooms built for visitors sit right beside ones locals have used for decades. Círculo de Bellas Artes and Edificio Metrópolis mark the smarter edge, towards Chueca.
