Inclán Brutal Bar is on Calle de Álvarez Gato, the Callejón del Gato where Valle-Inclán set the distorting mirrors of Luces de Bohemia, just behind Plaza de Santa Ana. It's part of the Rosi la Loca group, alongside Rosi la Loca and Bestial. The carta is staged in scenes, for sharing: ham croquetas, basil-injected burrata, duck bao, kimchi zamburiñas and a duck-and-truffle rice served in a ceramic duck, with cocktails poured into Marilyn Monroe or Bob Marley heads. A DJ sets the mood.

Background

About Inclán Brutal Bar

The Story

Inclán Brutal Bar was founded by Rosi and Lucian and takes its name and tone from Ramón María del Valle-Inclán, whose Luces de Bohemia sets its distorting mirrors in this alley. It now belongs to Rosi la Loca World, the group run by CEO Minerva Tapial, whose Madrid venues include Rosi la Loca, Bestial, Lovo Bar, Calle 365, Boom Boom Ciao, Chic and Victoria by Rosi la Loca. From the start the bar has given part of its profit to AUARA, a social enterprise that funds drinking-water wells. Javier Navarro led the kitchen in the early years; by 2021 the chef was Marbella-born Joaquín Serrano, formerly of El Celler de Can Roca and Club Allard.

The Cuisine

Spanish cooking with Asian touches and trampantojo tricks, served as tapas and 'supertapas' to share on a carta arranged like a play, plus a tasting menu.

How to Book Inclán Brutal Bar

Experience

Inclán Brutal Bar Dining Experience

Three spaces in one: a cocktail bar by the open kitchen, a library room lined with books, with marble tables, velvet sofas and a red capitoné corridor, and a glassed-in interior patio, the calmest spot and best by day. The façade itself is a bookcase. Chandeliers, giant roses on the ceiling and neon set the tone, and the tableware is by ceramicist José Piñero.

Getting There

Inclán Brutal Bar is on Calle de Álvarez Gato, 4, in the Barrio de las Letras, the old literary quarter just steps from Puerta del Sol.

Nearby

Barrio de las Letras is Madrid's literary quarter, its streets named for Cervantes, Lope de Vega and the writers of the Spanish Golden Age, centred around Plaza de Santa Ana and the Huertas nightlife strip. The eating mixes old tabernas with newer wine bars and cocktail rooms, and the crowd runs late into the night.
