Background

About Puccias

The Story

Puccias is a small sandwich spot on Calle de la Libertad, in Chueca, built around the puccia, a Southern Italian bread baked to order and filled with ingredients from around the world. It has a second shop on Calle López de Hoyos in Salamanca. The house pitches it for every kind of occasion: a quick bite, dinner with friends, a hangover morning, a picnic in the park or a children's party.

The Cuisine

The bread is a Southern Italian sourdough, baked fresh and filled to order with a mix of international ingredients.

The Puccias

Each puccia is €8.95, and any one can be made a double for €3 more. The Poblana pairs herb-marinated pork loin with gouda, spinach and spicy chipotle mayonnaise; the Pastor adds caramelised onion, roast pineapple and a creamy coriander sauce; the Pavo Taleggio brings turkey, taleggio, baked pears and thyme cream, hot or cold. There's a chicken pesto, a roast-beef take on pastrami with provolone and pickles, a Serrana with ham, mozzarella and tapenade, an Italiana with spicy salami and bacon, and a Veggie of roast vegetables, pesto and house hummus. Extras cost €0.60–1.95.

Menus and Sides

The menu is €11.95 for a puccia, a drink and crisps, and the children's menu €7.95 for two mini puccias, a drink and crisps. Salads are €6.50, desserts €4.50 (apple crumble or s'mores), and the drinks include Wostok natural sodas and lemonades. Orders also go out through Glovo and Uber Eats.

Getting There

It's on Calle Libertad in Justicia, the quieter, well-dressed side of Chueca in central Madrid.

Nearby

Justicia is the quieter, better-dressed half of the Chueca side of town, all narrow streets and small shopfronts. Mercado de San Antón anchors the eating, and around it sit grill rooms, wine bars and places that fill late. It is central without ever feeling like the centre.
