About Mercado de la Reina

The Story

Mercado de la Reina has been on Gran Vía since 2006 and is now marking twenty years with an anniversary menu. Its Gin Club, opened the same year for gin-and-tonic lovers, has its own door on Calle de la Reina. The group also runs Mercado de la Reina 10 next door, with a sangria bar.

The Cuisine

Traditional Spanish cuisine, with classic dishes pulled from across Spain's denominaciones de origen, quality ingredients and what the kitchen calls honest cooking, plus a terrace and a cocktail list.

The 20th-anniversary menu

For €32 per person (whole table, drinks extra) you choose a starter, a main and a dessert. Starters include the house ensaladilla, Soria torrezno on revolconas, morcilla de Burgos, cod buñuelos and a truffled red-prawn carpaccio; mains run from monkfish and prawns a la bilbaína to Iberian pork cheek or fried eggs with Guijuelo ham; dessert is a creamy baked cheesecake or lemon cream with blueberries. There's also a midday menu, a tapas menu and a separate bar carta.

Nearby

Centro is Madrid's historic core, the district that holds Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor and the long climb of Gran Vía all at once. The eating is dense and varied, from old-school taverns and chocolaterías that have not changed their counters in generations to newer rooms opening along Calle de Alcalá and San Bernardo. Nearly everything in the city is a walk away from here.
