Background

About Museo Chicote

The Story

Museo Chicote opened on Gran Via in 1931. Its founder, Pedro 'Perico' Chicote, had trained as a barman at Madrid's Hotel Ritz, and he commissioned the Art Deco interior, still intact behind the revolving door, from the architect Luis Gutiérrez Soto. The bar became a fixture of the city's nightlife for decades; the house recalls Ava Gardner's iced gin and Buñuel's dry martinis. It bills itself as the first cocktail bar in Spain.

The Cuisine

Cocktails are the point here, classics and house creations, with tapas and a dinner carta from 19:00. At weekends there's a brunch with a cocktail or open mimosas. Later in the night the music comes up and the room turns social.

The Art Deco room is the draw, its walls lined with photographs of the famous faces who drank here over the decades. It's good for groups, built around the cocktails, and late in the evening it shifts toward a livelier, club-like mood.
