Background
About La Cachapera
The Story
La Cachapera is a Venezuelan restaurant group with two Madrid branches, in Chueca and Cuzco, three in Barcelona and one in Valencia, plus delivery, catering and a food truck. Since arriving in Chueca it has built a following for Venezuelan street food, and in 2024 the branch received the 'Chueca Diversa' award at the eighth Premios Diversa, which recognise businesses that contribute to the barrio's diversity and cultural life.
The Cuisine
Venezuelan street food and home cooking: cachapas of sweet-corn dough with queso de mano, white- and sweet-corn arepas, crisp corn empanadas, tequeños, tostones and tajadas, and pabellón criollo.
Cachapas and Arepas
The traditional cachapa with queso de mano is €11.50, and the mixtas go up to €19.75: the Llanera with grilled beef and roast llanero cheese, the Caripe with ripe plantain and carne mechada, the Maracucha with bacon and melted cheddar, the Junquito with crisp fried pork, and a pabellón criollo cachapa. The arepas have Venezuelan names: the Pelúa with carne mechada and yellow cheese (€10.75), the Sifrina with reina pepiada, the Catira with shredded chicken, the Rumbera with pernil, the Apureña with picanha and guasacaca, and the Salto Ángel (€13.50), with carne mechada, fried pork, reina pepiada, queso de mano and avocado.
Starters, Empanadas and Desserts
To start there are tequeños (€8.15), tequeyoyos wrapped in ripe plantain, mini arepitas with chicharrón, cachinachos of fried cachapa with chilli and guacamole, tostones and tajadas with llanero cheese. Corn empanadas are filled with carne mechada, pabellón, cheese, chicken or cazón. Pabellón criollo, the national dish of shredded beef, black beans, rice and plantain, is €16.75. Desserts are tres leches cake, quesillo and Nutella tequeños.
Weekday Lunch
From Monday to Friday at lunch, the Cachapa del día is €14.50: a cachapa (tradicional, caraqueña or cubiro), a drink, and dessert or coffee.
