Melintzanosalata.

Background
About Egeo Malasaña
The Story
Egeo began more than ten years ago as a small take-away in Lavapiés inspired by the suvlakerías of Athens, and grew into four places: the Lavapiés original, this taberna on Calle del Barco done up like a typical taverna of the Cyclades, a classical-Greece room in Chamberí and a contemporary space in Ruzafa, Valencia. The name comes from Aegeus, the mythical king of Athens who threw himself into the sea that now bears his name when his son Theseus forgot to hoist the white sail.
The Cuisine
Fresh, light Greek cooking made from scratch every day, with no pre-cooked products, using fresh local produce and Greek imports such as PDO cheeses, yogurt, spices, craft beers and wines. The carta the branches share starts with mezedes (tzatziki, melitzanosalata, Santorini fava, spicy tyrokafteri), a dakos-style Cretan salad and horiatiki, then souvlaki and gyros of chicken, pork, Greek sausage, halloumi, mushrooms or thin-sliced beef, plus moussaka and keftedes.
Souvlaki Menus and Sharing
Souvlaki and gyros come as menus with fries or a mini Greek salad and a drink, which keeps lunch cheap, and there's a traditional tasting menu for two or more: salad, dips, moussaka or meatballs, a grill portion and a dessert of baklava, portokalopita or Greek yogurt. Vegetarian, vegan, keto and gluten-free options are marked, and ingredients and allergens are listed on the menus.
Practicalities
The Malasaña taberna opens for lunch and dinner every day except Tuesday, which is dinner only. Book online through the group's reservations page or call 912 32 13 59; Gran Vía and Tribunal are the nearest metro stations.

Experience
Egeo Malasaña Dining Experience
Egeo Malasaña is done up as a typical taberna of the Cyclades, the Greek islands the group takes its name from, and the mood stays deliberately informal. The cooking is fresh and light, built on good product and shared across the carta the group's four venues have in common, tracing back to a small Lavapiés take-away more than ten years ago.

Nearby
Malasaña is where the city keeps its energy, a tight web of streets that turns over fast and stays up late. The eating is young and restless, with vegan kitchens, coffee bars and creative rooms wedged between places that have not changed in decades. It runs down to Gran Vía, and it rewards walking without a plan.
