Casa 28 is a butcher shop and tasting bar on Calle del Espíritu Santo in Malasaña, central Madrid. Adrián Rojas and Roberto Quirant, both formerly of Punto MX, opened it in 2019 inside a butcher's that had traded for over a century. You eat at the counter, high stools and a short list of aged meats: steak tartare, cecina, slow-cooked cuts.

Background

About Casa 28

The Story

The space had been a neighbourhood butcher's for more than a century, run by the Fernández family across three generations, before it closed in 2014. Adrián Rojas and Roberto Quirant, who had both worked at Punto MX, reopened it as Casa 28 at the start of 2019, keeping the old marble and fittings and adding a wooden tasting bar.

The Cuisine

The counter deals in good meat: aged Iberian references and cuts with an Argentine accent, worked into steak tartare, cecina and slow-cooked dishes, with vermouth, beer and wine by the glass.

Getting There

Casa 28 is on Calle del Espíritu Santo in Malasaña, in the centre of Madrid, a fast-turning, late-night grid of streets that runs down toward Gran Vía.

Nearby

Malasaña is where the city keeps its energy, a tight web of streets that turns over fast and stays up late. The eating is young and restless, with vegan kitchens, coffee bars and creative rooms wedged between places that have not changed in decades. It runs down to Gran Vía, and it rewards walking without a plan.
