7 Kitchen & Bar is the bar and kitchen in the lobby of the 7 Islas Hotel on Calle Valverde, between Gran Vía and Malasaña. It opened in 2018 as 7 Craft Bar, pairing chef Xabi Guitart's product-led cooking with cocktails by bartender Narciso Bermejo in a room designed by Kikekeller. Natural wines and original cocktails remain the draw, and the kitchen serves from midday to 22:30 every day.

The Story

The 7 Islas Hotel opened its gastronomic space in 2018 as 7 Craft Bar, a lobby bar meant to work for hotel guests and the neighbourhood alike. At launch the kitchen was run by chef Xabi Guitart, cooking well-sourced product with avant-garde touches (and a tasting menu), while bartender Narciso Bermejo built the craft-cocktail list; the room was designed by Kikekeller. It now trades as 7 Kitchen & Bar, and the hotel describes it as creative cooking with natural wines and original cocktails.

The Cuisine

Creative, product-led cooking that mixes traditional and modern, served from midday through the evening, with natural wines and original craft cocktails given equal billing. Early reviews singled out dishes like hake in broth and a leek preparation, and a tasting menu offered at a moderate price; check the current carta at the bar.

Cocktails and Wine

Cocktails were the founding idea, under the 7 Craft Bar name, and the bar keeps a list of original drinks alongside natural wines. With the kitchen open from 12:00 to 22:30 and the bar from late morning to 23:00 or 23:30, it works for an aperitivo, a light lunch, an early dinner or a nightcap.

The Space

It occupies the hotel lobby, so the feel is a modern lounge rather than a formal dining room, with a fireplace and room for groups. Being inside a hotel, it opens every day, from 10:30 on weekdays and 11:00 at weekends.

Nearby

Malasaña is where the city keeps its energy, a tight web of streets that turns over fast and stays up late. The eating is young and restless, with vegan kitchens, coffee bars and creative rooms wedged between places that have not changed in decades. It runs down to Gran Vía, and it rewards walking without a plan.
