Background

About Somodó Bá

The Story

Somodó Bá is the second incarnation of chef Toshi Suzuki's Barcelona restaurant. After more than a decade in Gràcia, the kitchen relocated in 2023 to a small space on Passatge Batlló in l'Antiga Esquerra de l'Eixample, where it now seats eight diners at a single counter looking directly into the open kitchen. The format is intentionally intimate: one chef, one counter, two tasting menus, and a focus on direct contact between cook and guest in the manner of traditional Japanese counter dining.

The Cuisine

The cooking is rooted in Japanese tradition with Mediterranean influences, anchored by a stated philosophy of respect for the product and a preference for high-quality, locally sourced ingredients. The kitchen offers two fixed tasting formats: the Menú Batlló (€39, six courses) served at weekday lunches, and the longer Menú Somodó (€62, eight courses) served at weekday dinners and at Saturday lunch and dinner. Both line-ups shift with what is in season.

The Chef

The Team

The restaurant is run by chef Toshi Suzuki, who handles both the cooking at the counter and much of the service himself, allowing each diner to follow the preparation of every course directly across the bar.

Somodó Bá Dining Experience

A small, minimalist room organised around a single eight-seat counter that faces the open kitchen. The design is restrained and the room intentionally quiet, allowing diners to follow each course as it is plated directly in front of them.
