Background
About Bar Córdoba
The Story
Bar Córdoba was founded in the mid-1970s by a couple who had moved north from Córdoba in Andalusia. Their son Perico took over the bar, and today his sons, the Prieto brothers, continue the family business, now well into its second half-century on Carrer Luarca. Over the years the bar has grown from a neighbourhood institution into a destination for visiting chefs and travellers, with chefs Ferran Adrià and José Andrés and journalist Anthony Bourdain all having dropped in. A second outpost operates inside the food court of the nearby La Farga shopping centre.
The Cuisine
The cooking is rooted in the Andalusian and Cordoban tradition the founding family brought with them. The kitchen is best known for its flamenquín, the rolled, breaded and fried pork with ham that is a Cordoban specialty, alongside fried sardines, salmorejo, patatas bravas in a house sauce that has earned a place on Barcelona's bravas circuit, croquetas, paquetitos de jamón, freshly made tortillas (with morcilla, courgette, chistorra or potato) and bombas. Cazón en adobo, calamares a la romana and roasted suckling pig also appear on the menu.
The Team
The bar is run by the Prieto brothers, sons of Perico and grandsons of the original Cordoban founders. The team prides itself on serving home-style food and treating regulars by name, a continuity of family hospitality that has spanned three generations.
