The Story

The Simoes brothers, Toni at the stoves and Manuel overseeing the wine cellar, transformed a tapas bar near Hospital Clínic into one of Eixample's gastronomic reference points. Repsol describes it as 'modernized tavern cooking using premium ingredients, the best Galician seafood, premium beef, fresh daily auction fish, and local seasonal vegetables.' Toni trained at Barcelona's School of Hospitality but found his identity alongside Santi Santamaria. In 2014, the Academia de Gastronomía named him Best Young Chef of Catalunya. In 2015, Repsol awarded the first Sol, renewed every year since. Now celebrating 20 years.

The Cuisine

Two formats under one roof. The Taverna zone offers tapas and a Classic menu at the bar, including the legendary patatas bravas that 'by popular mandate cannot leave the menu' (Repsol). The Restaurant zone serves more sophisticated plates and two tasting menus (Gastro and Gran Menú Taverna). Michelin highlights 'traditional cooking based around seasonal ingredients, with a particular fondness for stews and great respect for time-honoured flavours, from a modern perspective.' The kitchen sources fish daily from the Finisterre coast (caught with rod by fisherman Roberto), local fish auctions, eco vegetables from Sant Pol de Mar, and wild mushrooms from the Puig family of Centelles. Iranian caviar, melanosporum truffle, and white Alba truffle for those who want luxury. Artisan cheese tasting from small producers.

The Team

Toni Simoes leads the kitchen, trained under Santi Santamaria, lover of 'classic cuisine renewed with French tradition.' Brother Manuel manages front of house and curates the wine cellar, which holds 100+ references and was awarded Best Wine Cellar in Barcelona by Premis Cartavi in 2013 and 2015.
